This one‐day seminar was developed to educate and familiarize member’s employees at any career stage on the basic concepts of why fasteners fail. This course first looks at basic failure mechanics. With this foundation laid, it looks at fastener failures in service, failures in manufacturing, corrosion, and hydrogen embrittlement. In addition to the basic engineering and mechanics of failure, this course is peppered with actual case studies which illustrate how these issues actually occur in the real world. Understanding these mechanisms gives the participant a greater perspective on the criticality of properly designed, installed, and manufactured fasteners.
